Our Capabilities

Pre-construction Services

We have found that proactive involvement during the preconstruction phase has the greatest potential influence on a project's final outcome. At the core of our preconstruction services approach is the belief that your project should benefit from our years of experience. Our years of experience in building strong relationships with building owners, design professionals, and subcontractors allow us to create superior teams that are fully capable of implementing the most complex project.

A comprehensive preconstruction process includes four critical elements:

  • identification of objectives and expectations
  • controlling your construction costs
  • schedule development and risk assessment
  • implementation of appropriate tools to mitigate these risks

We've had the opportunity to learn from every project we've been involved in, and we are committed to working with you and your team to leverage the full benefit of our expertise. During preconstruction, our goal is not limited to simply defining project parameters such as cost and schedule.  While this is an important step for every project, of even greater importance is our ability to help identify and actively plan for construction issues that may place the budget and schedule objectives at risk.  Therefore, we believe it is important that we establish ourselves as an integral part of your team very early in the process and become a partner with you in your venture.

We thoroughly evaluate a number of factors during the preconstruction phase and can provide the following expertise to benefit your project.

  • Design Management (as needed)
  • Agency Coordination & Estimating
  • Constructability Analysis
  • Bid Packaging
  • Schedule Development
  • Site Logistics Planning
  • Construction Phase Sequencing
  • Subcontractor Prequalification
  • Real-Time Cost Feedback

Design Build

H&W Construction Company has a successful track record of completing design-build development projects with an integrated delivery approach. We focus on listening to our customer’s vision and communicating these expectations throughout the design and construction process. We provide feedback on costs and constructability throughout design, encouraging dialogue. Our goal is to offer the project team more flexibility, creating significant opportunities for innovation and creative problem solving.

Among the many benefits of design-build are:

  • Design and construction services under one contract
  • Single Entity Control – schedule and cost are a coordinated in concert
  • Typically best method for fast-track projects
  • High quality design delivered economically
  • Subcontractor expertise and insight can be obtained through the  design process

Meet Our Estimators

The estimating process typically involves the creation of a preliminary budget and scope of work for the project.  Our estimators are always looking for cost saving options and offer a list of Value Engineering (VE) suggestions to keep the project on or under budget while maintaining the integrity of the design.

Our estimating team works hard to try and find economical solutions while understanding the scope of the project as well as our customer needs.

Schedule Development

During the budgeting process, a preliminary schedule is created to define a broad overview of the timeline needed to complete the project.  In addition to assigning dates to project activities, project scheduling is intended to match the resources of equipment, materials and labor with project work tasks over time.

Good scheduling can eliminate problems due to production bottlenecks, facilitate the timely procurement of necessary materials, and otherwise insure the completion of a project as soon as possible.

Formal scheduling procedures have become much more common with the advent of personal computers on construction sites and easy-to-use software programs.

H&W Construction follows the most widely used scheduling technique called CPM(critical path method). This method calculates the minimum completion time for a project along with the possible start and finish time for the project activities. The CPM method of project organization is of great value to the client.  Not only is he aware of progress being made on the project with a strict timeline being adhered to, but the client also recognizes his financial investment in the project is being both monitored and respected.
