HVAC Technician

Position Summary:

The HVAC Technician’s primary objective is to install and maintain refrigeration and air conditioning systems within H&W Construction and Aikens Group. They will provide excellent quality of service and exemplify H&W’s values and pillars of success. The HVAC Technician must exercise good judgment in various situations and have attention to detail when dealing with items promptly. They will need to work independently and within a team atmosphere as they pertain to different jobs and projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Installation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance on all HVAC systems for H&W Construction and Aikens Group.
  • Ensure the efficient use of materials and maintain necessary equipment.
  • Documentation of work accomplished using the H&W Construction eWork Order system.
  • Analyze, respond, and provide feedback on routine and emergency calls for service.
  • Complete daily route sheets and weekly reports as needed.
  • Follow all quality control standards, safety regulations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Report and advise the management team on the upkeep and maintenance needed for equipment.
  • Keep not of all maintenance required for the company truck and equipment.
  • Schedule services, repair as needed within parameters required by each manufacturer.
  • Perform work in a professional manner.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Carpenter

Position Summary:

H&W Construction is seeking a skilled tradesman with at least 5 years in the carpentry field. The chosen applicant will be awarded a full-time job with potential growth opportunities. Work to be performed within 30 miles of Winchester VA including Woodstock VA and Martinsburg WV. Applicants must be detail oriented with the willingness to work together as a team to ensure project schedules are met but the quality of the build is never compromised.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Read blueprints, drawings, and sketches to fully grasp requirements.
  • Work with wood and metal framing materials.
  • Install windows, doors, staircases, and frame buildings by using raw materials or pre-constructed items.
  • Lay out floors, walls, roofing trusses and drywall ensuring they are level and compatible.
  • Install Kitchen cabinetry, interior trim for windows and doors.
  • Build scaffolding and other construction structures.
  • Utilize hand tools such as chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders to repair and erect structures.
  • Join materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives.
  • Work on top of ladders, in manlifts, and the top beams of buildings.
  • Work on top of stilts, ladders, and the top beams of buildings.
  • Check work along the way to ensure it's up to code and specifications.
  • Use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment to ensure everything is level and secure.
  • 40 hours a week with occasional overtime.

Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements:

  • Basic construction blueprints and drawings.
  • Good understanding of basic math.
  • Hands-on experience in working with carpentry materials.
  • Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction.
  • Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.).
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Must provide basic carpentry hand tools (large power tools supplied by company).
  • Skilled tradesman with 2-5 years of experience in residential and/or commercial carpentry.
  • Team player who can work independently.
  • Must be able to work and navigate over uneven surfaces while carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Bi-lingual is a plus.
  • Man-Lift and Forklift experience a plus.

Crane Operator

Position Summary:

The Crane Operator will be responsible for operating various types of cranes to lift, move, and position heavy materials and equipment on construction sites. The ideal candidate will have a valid crane operator certification, a strong focus on safety, and a proven track record of precision and reliability in crane operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safely and efficiently operate cranes to lift, move, and position heavy materials and equipment according to project requirements.
  • Perform pre-operational inspections of cranes to ensure proper functioning and identify any maintenance or safety issues.
  • Communicate with ground crew and other team members to coordinate lifts and ensure safety during crane operations.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe work practices.

Class A Equipment Operator

Position Summary:

The Class A Operator is an operator that has experience with all methods of Construction Excavation work. This individual possesses the qualities to operate machinery at its top level to achieve the productivity needed daily while still maintaining a safe work environment for his fellow employees.  The ideal candidate should be able to operate at a mastery level multiple pieces of equipment to include but not limited to: backhoe, track hoe, mini excavator, rubber tired loader, track loader, skid steer, end dump, dozer with GPS, grader, rollers. The operator that is placed in this position plays a critical role in the formation of the excavation team. The operator will play an instrumental role in performing excavation work for a pipe utility crew or grade crew and dependability, accuracy and safety are a must. The operator must be able to fine grade and be able to check their own work to ensure accuracy. The individual must be able to recognize situations where proper benching must take place to keep the piece of equipment and others out of harm’s way. From time to time this individual may be asked to work independently due to the nature of their experience and from time-to-time direct others if needed. In the absence of a Foreman, this person should be able to stand in on a temporary basis.

  • Ensure that equipment is kept clean.
  • Ensure that work sites are kept clean and tidy.
  • Attending meetings and refresher courses to ensure responsible equipment operation.
  • Identifying site conditions and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Maintain a safe work area and ensure that barricades are in place if needed at the completion of work.
  • Maintain a positive attitude with the ability to follow directions and work with others.

Class B Equipment Operator – Bulldozer and Excavator

Position Summary:

The Class B Operator is an operator that has moderate experience with all methods of Construction Excavation work. This individual possesses the qualities to operate machinery in a safe and productive manner and will act as a support operator to the Class A Equipment Operator and the rest of the team members. This individual should be able to take direction from the Foreman or the Class A Equipment Operator and perform necessary tasks requested.  At all times the operator must be able to maintain a safe work area around themselves and others.  He or she should be able to operate efficiently multiple pieces of equipment to include but not limited to.  This individual will also be asked to help with pipe installation and other items as needed. This individual needs to understand that they play an active role with the productivity of the team and at times will not be in the seat. They are a support mechanism to help keep material stocked for a pipe crew while on the job, operate various types of equipment as needed and requested and serve as a backup if a Class A Operator cannot be in attendance. Dependability, accuracy, and safety are a must while working as a team member along with an “can do attitude”.  The operator may not possess qualities as a fine grade operator but continues to work to improve upon his trade. The individual must be able to recognize situations where proper benching must take place to keep himself the piece of equipment and others out of harm’s way. This individual may be asked by the Foreman to help with utility pipe installation if needed.

Electrician

Excavation Foreman

Position Summary:

The Foreman is the leader and person responsible for the construction project that has been assigned to them.  He or she is responsible for the job in its entirety from the ground up. Aspects of this include: 

  1. Preplanning before a job commences – establishing a construction schedule with the project manager.
  2. Managing the build out of his/her work and coordinating and working with others in a positive manner.
  3. Communicating with subcontractors to ensure they are on the job when needed.
  4. Scheduling of inspections with city or county officials
  5. Ordering materials to ensure the proper material is on site when needed with the Project Manager.
  6. Communicating and dealing with the owners’ ever-changing needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that daily logs are turned into Project Manager and coordinate needs for following days’ work.
